As a small business owner, you’re probably spinning a multitude of plates at the best of times; if you’re also a working parent, the school summer holidays can present a challenge when it comes to juggling everything…. I can’t help you with the bickering between your offspring as they enjoy the long summer together, nor with the mess that comes with having small people at home all day every day…BUT I can suggest some great tools that will make your life easier when it comes to organising and managing your online business. Here are my top 10 tools to help you save time and get organised for summer:
ManageFlitter
Need help with organising your Twitter account? ManageFlitter has features that will analyse your account and identify your best time to post Tweets and to schedule posts appropriately. You can also use it to find the right people to follow, see who has unfollowed you, and plenty of other useful stuff too, it’s a great tool for keeping your Twitter account organised.
Hootsuite
Hootsuite is one of my favourite tools for managing multiple social media platforms. Unless you’re managing more than 5 platforms, the free account is all you’ll need. Use it to schedule posts to Facebook (although I recommend you do this directly into Facebook), Twitter and LinkedIn ahead of time, this can prove invaluable in terms of organisation and time-management.
Dropbox
This is a cloud storage system that backs up your files and enables you to keep everything in one place. It can be installed on nearly any mobile device using an iOS or Android OS (including Kindle Fire) and its collaboration features allow you to work from anywhere and send large files via the web rather than using email. For me, its value lies in being able to easily and quickly share files including images, videos and documents, with associates and clients. And perfect if you are spending time away from home and still want to access all your stuff.
Canva
If you want to create quick, easy, cost-effective and eye-catching visual content, then Canva’s the place to go! With oodles of free templates and images to choose from, this site offers everything you need to produce fabulous images for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and more. Premium images carry a small charge, but there are hundreds of free graphics, photos and fonts, or you can upload your own.
MailChimp
MailChimp is a brilliant email marketing tool that is incredibly easy to use. With its fabulous interface and online tools, you’ll be surprised at how simple it is to set up and manage your own email marketing campaigns – from the design right through to the reporting of the campaign statistics. In a nutshell, Mailchimp enables you to create and manage a professional and effective email marketing campaign without a designer or marketing expert in sight! You can also schedule ahead of time – What’s not to love?
Wunderlist
Whilst there are many to-do list apps out there, Wunderlist is my number 1. This beautifully-designed task management app syncs seamlessly across multiple devices, meaning that your to-do list is always accessible. It’s delightfully simple to use and is completely free (unless you upgrade for additional features). With Smart Lists like Today and Week, it displays all tasks with due dates on those particular days, which can really help you to stay realistic about what you can and will get done. If you want to take control of your to-do list and actually get things done, downloading Wunderlist should definitely be on your list!
Timely
Timely is a booking system that works in your web browser and can be accessed across all your devices. It’s easy to set up and use and has a number of great features that will help save you time and manage your bookings, including online booking through your website and Facebook Page, automated text and email reminders, invoicing and online payments, and much more.
bit.ly
bit.ly is a popular URL link shortening service. Its most obvious use is to reduce precious Twitter characters by shortening extra-long hyperlinks into bite-sized “bitmarks”, but bitley’s features also mean that you can track clicks on your links and organise your links into themed “bundles”, build a network of other people you know that use bitly and automatically generate bitmarks for your blog.
Followonk
Followonk is a great tool to help you build a relevant and engaged Twitter following; use the brilliant ‘Search bios’ tab to find your ideal customers, influencers and potential brand advocates.
Evernote
Evernote is a cloud-based software service for creating, organizing and storing various pieces of media. You can clip online articles, capture handwritten notes and even take and attach pictures to a note right from within the app! The beauty of Evernote is that it syncs automatically across all your devices, and across all your operating systems. It’s organised into notebooks and notes and, just like in real life; you create a notebook for a particular subject then fill that notebook with notes. You can use it to track where you’re spending your time, record interviews, send yourself reminders, track your finances…and so much more. If you’re not using Evernote already, then take note: this is one app that really could change your life!
