You won’t be the first and you definitely won’t be the last person to feel like this.  It scares everyone at first, particularly if you’re more comfortable to let your fingers do your talking.

But, in the big scheme of things Facebook live is a fantastic way to reach out to your followers.  It’s an easy way to show the real you and pull in those people who like to know, like and trust before committing to any working relationship.

So how can you get Facebook Live CONFIDENT?

Make this your mantra – ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’

You are showing your followers the real you.  Mistakes and glitches happen.  If anything goes wrong, you might just giggle about it and your followers will love you for that.  They want to see a real person, not just a cleverly worded post and a cool meme

Keep it brief

Stick to making three key points at first and then as your confidence grows you’ll find you can stay on longer.

Create a generic opening and closing

Start and finish your Facebook Lives the same every time.  It just needs to be basic, something as simple as… ‘Hi, Naomi here with 3 quick tips about x, y and z’ and finished off with, ‘I hope that’s helped. See you in the next Facebook Live and remember if there’s anything you need help with just let me know.’

Practice, practice, practice

The more you do, the less scary it will be.  I promise.

Start with videos first

If you’re so scared by Facebook Live that you point blank refuse to do them, then why not start to record your own videos instead.  This will help you get used to preparing your script / bullet points and elaborating on them, and you’ll become more and more comfortable with talking into the screen.  Share these videos on your Facebook page until you’re happy to go live.

Focus on your listeners

It’s not all about you.  Your followers want to hear what you’ve got to say.  They’re not interested in whether you’ve got your lippy on or not.  They want your expert tips and help and maybe the odd giggle or two.  Say ‘hi’ to them as they pop up and thank them for sending you little hearts and smiles as you talk.  It can be a two-way street, this Facebook live thing.

Tell people about your Facebook Live in advance

To begin with, you might feel like it’s an utter waste of time when you see the word red box says LIVE: 0 BUT if you can tell your followers or your email list that you’re going live on Monday at 6pm, this will solve this little blip for you. And encourage people to subscribe to your lives – that way they’ll be notified every time you go live and they’ll be less likely to miss out on seeing your lovely face and hearing your news.

Look on it as an easy way to get right in front of your crowd

You’ll be able to use it for live Q+As, for mini-masterclasses, and for sharing news about your latest programme/course/book/freebie. It’s free, it’s easy and it’s yours for the taking!

If you can get out of your own way, put this whole Facebook Live in perspective and just do it, I know you’ll fall in love with it, and Facebook Live will become an integral part of your social media marketing.
Less typing, more talking, that’s what I say.
Give it a go, honestly you’ll be fine.
